I’ve been a driving instructor for many years now and have seen many people come and go. From youngsters getting in the driver’s seat for the first time to hearing impaired – they all have a story to tell. So over the next few months I’m going to share some short stories of clients I’ve helped that have impressed and inspired me. I hope you enjoy.
Developing more than his driving skill
A few years ago I received a phone call from a nervous and worried mother. Her son had just turned 17 and needed some formal driving lessons. It’s not unusual for a parent to be apprehensive at their child’s first foray into driving, but this wonderful mother wasn’t worried about learning to give way, left before right or survive the ‘five ways’ roundabout in Mooroolbark – she was worried that he was worried that he was so shy and quiet that he might not have the courage to succeed.
It took a few lessons but slowly this quiet young man opened up, gained confidence and started to enjoy himself. What I loved most about my experience with this young man was that as he slowly came out of his shell his mother saw positive changes at home too. On the eve of his licence test I received a call from his very proud mother and in her words her son had become ‘cool, calm and fun to be around’, passing the test would be a bonus to the transformed young man he had become.
One very successful licence test later and this youngster had changed his life with just a little guidance along the way.
That’s why I love what I do.
